What’s the SMART Journey?

Our world is rapidly changing. In 20 years, 65% of today’s jobs will no longer exist in their current form. So how can we best prepare our children for the future?

At Flying Cape, we believe that maximising learning potential in our children starts with understanding how each child is unique in terms of interests and learning styles. Our SMART framework takes the best of research from renowned academics all over the world and translates these findings into clear and actionable plans you can apply.

Find out your child’s strengths, interests and learning preferences using diagnostic assessments from established universities.
Success in academics does not guarantee success in the real world. Select activities that will nurture your child to become all-rounded.
Get your child’s active input in deciding on the type of classes. You can use our All-You-Can-Learn Pass to determine fit of school and teaching style.
Get regular feedback from your child’s teachers
Affirm your child’s progress and jointly determine next steps by increasing the level of difficulty or trying out new ways of learning where appropriate. Do explore practical applications of new found skills and knowledge.

Multiple Intelligence (MI)

Developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner – professor of education at Harvard University, the theory of Multiple Intelligence moves away from the traditional notion of intelligence being determined solely via I.Q. testing. Instead, Dr. Gardner discovered that there were 8 types of human intelligences, each representing different ways where we process information. Understanding these 8 intelligences will more accurately account for the broad range of human potential in children and adults.

Habits of Mind (HOM)

Habits of Mind is about knowing how to behave intelligently and respond effectively to uncertainty or dilemmas. Habits of Mind refer to a set of 16 dispositions that are skilfully and mindfully employed by people when they are confronted with problems, the solutions to which are not immediately apparent. The understanding and application of these 16 Habits of Mind provide the individual with skills to work through real life situations, to respond using awareness (cues), thought, and intentional strategy to gain a positive outcome.

To get an understanding of your child’s thinking disposition, the abridged version of The Habits of Mind Assessment Scale (THOMAS) is an online assessment to provide insights on your child’s strengths and weaknesses by answering 30 questions.
